For those of you that are old enough to have been kids when The Mickey Mouse Club was the rage, well we started our coffee company mainly because, like Mickey, we like you! Seriously, we enjoy the opportunity to just chat about stuff we like...and we happen to like alpacas, and coffee! We also like combining the two whenever we can...so The Alpaca Bean Coffee Company was born to make this possible.
We hope you enjoy our coffee and the conversations you have while sipping on a cup or mug of this special brew. We now have met folks in all parts of our good ol' U.S.A. that enjoy having a coffee that is fresh roasted and just flat out easy on the taste buds as well.
That is the original why behind our adventure into the coffee world, but it really went further than that. Charles Mustard, a master roaster in our and almost everyone's book, is a very good friend. When he was a very young guy, he was in our youth group at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. He also became a very close friend with our daughters and married our eldest daughter's best friend. Well we moved away from Irmo after many wonderful years to return home to Georgia. We left behind a community that was special and really never expected to see the folks there too often after making the decision to move. Luck and fate came together when Charles and Allison decided to come to Athens, GA to attend graduate school at UGA...where I served on the faculty of the Institute of Community and Area Development (later to be merged into The Carl Vinson Institute of Government). You know this story could get very long, so I will skip the many months and years that led to The Alpaca Bean's birth and get down to the final why...
You see Charles worked his way through grad school roasting coffee beans...he did so well that he ended up buying the roasting portion of Jittery Joe's Coffee Company...we knew Charles...we knew he roasted coffee...we knew the coffee at the Jittery Joe's coffee shops could not be beat - no where/no how... The question soon became, "Why not?" So here we are!!!
We, at The Alpaca Bean Coffee Company, are very thankful for Charles, his friendship, and his gentle spirit. We look forward to the future growth of The Alpaca Bean Coffee Company and the many differing directions we will head. There will be other why's to come, and the first will directly be linked to exploring options for establishing wholesale outlets, and potentially moving the roasting operation to our farm. Why? Cause we like you! And we want to make sure you have an excellent cup or mug of coffee to facilitate lively conversations with your friends and family!
